Jōdō , meaning “the way of the staff” is a Japanese martial art using a short staff called jō, and is focused upon defense against the Japanese sword. Jōdō is the modern development of jōjutsu, which was created by the famous samurai, Musō Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi, about 400 years ago, after losing a fight against Miyamoto Musashi.

Seitei Jōdō , as studied in the BKA is primarily drawn from the school of jōjutsu that Gonnosuke would go on to create as a result of this defeat. At Heijoshin Dojo we study seitei jōdō and Shintō Musō-ryū jōjutsu.
